I want to be friends on the internet! 🙋‍♀️ Even though I'm sad you DNF-ed Catch-22 because it's in my top 5 favorite books of all time. I recently got around to reading Maria Bamford's Sure, I'll Join Your Cult and highly recommend it (as I recommend all things Maria).

Hi Internet friend! I will come back to Catch-22! I know it’s well worth my time!

I loved Sure I’ll Join Your Cult! I live in Maria’s hometown, so there’s a huge contingent of her fans here. 🖤🖤

I just finished The Correspondent and am currently listening to Atmosphere which I am liking so far. And my library loan for Actress of a Certain Age just came in and I am excited to start it! Also if you have not seen Somebody Somewhere yet then you need to.

I started Somebody Somewhere last week! So lovely.

And I’m about halfway through The Correspondent! Looking forward to hearing what you think about Actress of a Certain Age.

Reading Terminal is one of my favorite places on earth.

Still working my way through my first pass at on writing…but agree, that guy might have a future in front of him.

My own reading has been getting crushed recently by my own research and writing. Looking forward to wrapping that up.

Oh Sarah, this made me so happy! Book nerds are the best fucking nerds.

I too manage to clock in between 40-50 a year. Here is a most recent 10:

You Exist Too Much - Zaina Arafat

Yesteryear is spectacular !!

The Correspondent - Virginia Evans

Famesick - Lena Dunham

Sometime This Century - Samantha Silva

North Woods - Daniel Mason

Heart The Lover - Lilly King

What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours - Helen Oyemi

Starter Villain - John Scalzi

Reread: Get It While You Can - Nick Jaina

Nick is my writing teacher. I took two years of a memoir writing class with him and he is a wonderful writer. I think you would really enjoy him.

I must stop....thanks for all of your recommendations.

I loved Hitomi so much! I gifted it to many friends, I’ll look for Nick’s other books, too!

I also adored North Woods!! I will look into the other… Famesick has been on my radar for a few months now…

btw love love hearing your book reviews. I haven't used Storygraph before — do you like it more/less than Goodreads?

Sarah Gardner's avatar

In theory, I like StoryGraph a lot but I have yet to use it consistently enough to know I love it. BUT I hate Goodreads on principle because it’s owned by Amazon, so I’m doing my best to ween myself away from that particular app, though it’s taking a while.

StoryGraph shows your reading by genre, pacing, and has really thorough trigger warning (if the dog dies I do not need to read it, ya know?) so it’s really cool to see how many, for example, memoirs I’ve read at the end of a year via. How many novels, etc. I think I will like it a lot once I start using it properly.

oooh yeah, StoryGraph does sound better. thx for the info!! :)

Let me know what you think!

I’m distracted by the amount of FACE “Sam’s brother” is serving on that book cover.

Sam’s brother: original looksmaxxer?

Like you, I also feel like I didn't read enough when I was younger. I feel like I missed out! I like short stories. I recently finished "The Unprofessionals: New American Writing" and I enjoyed it a lot. I loved Mia Mercado's books, if you haven't read or listened to those, they are along the same lines as Lillian Stone and Mauve Dunigan.

I'll add "Congratulations! The Best is Over!" to my list next!
